One-Way Rentals OK!? Tandem Bikes for Couples, Plus Boat Set Plans!

If you want to explore sightseeing spots efficiently and enjoy the sea breeze while gliding through the pine forest, renting a bicycle is the perfect choice.
Walking across the 3.6-km Amanohashidate takes about 70 minutes, but by bicycle it only takes around 20!
Enjoy the ride as you cycle briskly along the pine-covered sandbar with the sea on both sides, heading toward the opposite shore.

There are several rental bike locations around Amanohashidate, each with different bike types and rental systems.
Here, we’ll give you the most detailed guide available for renting bicycles to help you explore Amanohashidate efficiently.

The most popular option is the rental service offered by Tango Kairiku Kōtsū, the same company that operates the sightseeing boats.
You can rent bicycles at both sightseeing boat piers—Amanohashidate Pier on the Monju side and Ichinomiya Pier on the Fuchu side—and the greatest advantage is that you can return your bike on the opposite shore.

The rental fee is 400 yen for up to 2 hours, plus 200 yen for each additional hour.
There are also great-value sightseeing tickets that combine bicycle rental with cable car or sightseeing boat rides, so be sure to check those before renting!

With these discounted tickets, you can pick up a bike at Amanohashidate Pier on the Monju side, cycle across to Ichinomiya Pier, return the bike there, and then take the cable car up to Kasamatsu Park, which offers one of the best panoramic views of Amanohashidate.
After enjoying the scenery from above, you can return to Monju by sightseeing boat.
You can also do the course in reverse—start from Ichinomiya Pier, cycle to the Monju side, and then go up Amanohashidate Viewland for a spectacular view from the south.

And here’s a little insider tip:
Both Amanohashidate Pier and Ichinomiya Pier offer tandem bicycles!
If you’re a couple, you should definitely try one. Exploring this romantic, matchmaking destination while pedaling together is sure to bring you even closer.

If you just want to make a round-trip across Amanohashidate, there are special combo tickets:
Sightseeing Boat + Bicycle for 900 yen and
Motorboat + Bicycle for 1,000 yen (available only for groups of 4 or more; not offered during Golden Week or the Obon period).
Go one way by bike and return by boat, and you can even fulfill the wish of “I want to see Amanohashidate from the sea!”

If you prefer a motorboat combo, check out “Charibo”, run by Kasamatsu Kankō Motorboat, located right by the main entrance of Amanohashidate on the Monju side.
You can rent and return bicycles near both sightseeing piers, and the set price is:
– Adults: 900 yen
– Elementary school children: 600 yen
– Young children: 400 yen
Adult bicycles are stylish Bridgestone minibikes, and they also offer kids’ bikes and child seat bicycles, making it perfect for families.

There are plenty of other rental spots too—tourist information centers, souvenir shops, hotels, and bike shops on both sides of the sandbar.
Most charge 400–500 yen for 2 hours, but some offer full-day rentals for 500–1,000 yen, so choose the best deal based on how much time you have.

For those who want to explore comfortably, electric-assist bicycles are also available.
At the roadside station “Kyoto by the Sea – Miyazu”, located about a 10-minute walk from Miyazu Station, electric bikes can be rented for 500 yen for 2 hours. While you’re out sightseeing, you can even park your own car there for free.

It takes about 20 minutes to reach Amanohashidate from the station by bicycle, but if you want to enjoy not only the crossing but also the coastal roads and surrounding areas with ease, this option is highly recommended.
This roadside station, which opened in November 2015, also has a tourist information center where you can gather local travel tips and pick up maps. On your way back, don’t forget to buy some Amanohashidate souvenirs or fresh local produce.

Why not make the most of the rental bike options and enjoy a sightseeing adventure full of highlights at Amanohashidate?
